I have been vainly trying for several months to start a Book Club with a group of my girlfriends and this past week we finally succeeded. I finally gave in and read the Bella series by Stephanie Meyers (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn). I was the hold out where all my other friends have been long time fans. Anyway, I thought I would share our discussion here and allow any other fans to join in. Enjoy! Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

I totally agree with you about the annoying-ness of the early Bella. But I related to her so much because I was the same self-absorbed, self-destructive, hormonal 17-year old. I didn’t know if the message is necessarily that you should be like Bella. After all, she’s not exactly normal… she wants to become a vampire… hello? Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

From K.: First of all: I’m an Edward fan and can’t wait for Midnight Sun to be published. You can read the first chapter on Stephenie’s website:
http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/pdf/midnightsun_chapter1.pdf
Bella and her lack of commitment to Edward have been bugging me the entire time. So she wants to lose her life and possibly her soul for Edward, but then she won’t commit to him and turn down Jake? If my girlfriend wanted to be BFF with a guy who was clearly overstepping the boundaries of friendship, I’d have an issue. Edward should have gone on a hunting trip with Tanya to show Bella how hurtful and selfish her playing both sides is. LOL!
Anyhoo, I like her a lot better as a vampire. But did Stephenie really have to add all possible cliches to New Moon? The whole pregnancy & imprinting on a baby story line is just wrong. I guess Stephenie wanted to make Edward & Jake fans happy, but I think it kind of backfired. There would have been better ways to wrap things up (Ed +Bella marriage, Bella vampire, Jake + Leah imprinting, Volturis coming after the werewolves and Cullens aligning with werewolves, etc.). Instead she gave Bella everything Bella could have possibly asked for. Not very realistic. People make sacrifices and as a consequence, others get hurt. That’s life, just not for Bella. It’s all a big happy family with humans, werewolves and vampires; interbreeding. Kind of creepy! Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

I read! My best friend got the fourth one and won’t let it out of her sight, so I have to go to her house for a day to read it! CAN’T wait! (And I just completely ignored your entire post for fear of spoilers.) Interlachen, Florida |

I just got back from the midnight (actually 12:15am) showing of “Twilight”. I’m not going to tell you to stay home. If you’re a fan, by all means go see it. But lower your expectations. This is not the book-come-to-life. I disagree strongly with some of the casting choices, the scripting was poorly adapted (zero character development), special effects were lame, and some of the painstaking details that made Meyers’ writing interesting were completely ignored (i.e. don’t expect the Cullen house of the book). Okay, I’m taking my tired butt to bed… oh, one last note: try not to stare at Edwards big poof of a hair do… just try not to, I dare you! Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

I just started on these. Well, I’m halfway through Eclipse now so “just started” doesn’t quite cut it anymore but I’m a fast reader. I’m loving them so far! Unfortunately I saw the movie “Twilight” before reading the book so I jumped to New Moon and now I”m on Eclipse. I think I’ll have to go back and read “Twilight” anyway because I can tell I’ve missed a lot (Alice’s past, James’s story, etc) I haven’t read the posts here other than the first one for fear of spoilers but I’ll come back here when I finish “Breaking Dawn” Jacob is a hawtie, btw. I like him so much more than control-freak Edward. But how are they going to make the kid that plays him in the movie grow to 6’7” and develop Arnold-like muscles for New Moon?? San Francisco, CA |

Anayma, in case you haven’t heard… the actor that plays Jake was going to be replaced but he put on 25 pounds to play the role! I guess they will just CGI the extra height he needs… LOL Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |
