I’m probably going to get reamed for this question, but I’m just curious. When a trader purchases a DC# are you more inclined to send your end before receiving theirs? I’m new here, I’ve never been “swaplifted” from, but I’ve been stolen from in life, so the karma rule makes sense and I guess it is just a traders preference, but if you have solid proof that a rehasher shipped, why wouldn’t you go ahead and ship as well to speed the trade a long? Also, I am not impatient by any means. I just think that a proof of purchase is relevant. Altamonte Springs, Florida |

Actually, DC makes no difference to me in shipping to the other member. It’s nice to have to track your item to make sure it arrived to the other swapper, but it by no means inclines me to send first. You honestly have no idea if a person is sending you a box full of packing peanuts. I’ve heard horror stories of people sending after they’ve received delivery confirmation and when it arrived, it was nothing but a small box full of tissue paper. Swaplifters aren’t stupid. They plan their attacks pretty methodically. Most wouldn’t bother using a DC, but if it’s a high-value item, and the trader can be convinced by a 39 cent number, then by all means, they WILL and HAVE done it. There have been plenty of traders here who have been victim to bogus tracking numbers. We’ve deleted several profiles that had loads of fake tracking numbers on their profile to “prove” they shipped. That actually makes me hesitant to be so trusting. I understand now… I only have dealings with ebay and they are becoming more and more strict with their sellers. I hadn’t thought of that, how do you prove someone is sending you what they say they are? Thank you for the insight. =) Actually, DC makes no difference to me in shipping to the other member. On the whole, people on Rehash are trustworthy. But, like Katie pointed out, there are people who will want to take advantage of anyone. That’s one reason why we recommend new swappers trade with people with more experience first. Looking at the number of positive swaps a person has made and reading the feedback left can give you a idea of the type of person you’ll be trading with. Also, read the person’s profile. That can give you a good idea of what to expect as well. Jefferson, Georgia |
