Economical shipping has always been a part of the Rehash mantra. But recently, I’ve noticed that packages have been getting hammered as they come through the U.S. Mail. Today, I received a lovely shirt from a Rehasher but was dismayed to discover that it was damaged in transit. It was pretty obvious that the damage was a result of the tear in the padded envelope. Normally, I’d say that a padded envelope alone is adequate for shipping, but I strongly recommend wrapping any delicate fabrics in a secondary layer of protective wrap before putting them into an envelope. The plastic envelopes that Woot! and Victoria’s Secret uses make great recycled liners. If anyone else has helpful shipping suggestions, please add them here! Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |

The flat rate envelopes ($4.70 to ship with delivery confirmation from your doorstep) are also great protective packages, and generally cheaper to ship. I’ve been able to fit a pair of jeans, a belt AND a top in them, and they all arrived safely! Also, this is typically a very cheap way to ship and you get the added bonus of the free DC and the mailman picking it up from your doorstep. |

Indeed. I received two makeup lots recently, and the first one was a big box halfway full of eyeshadows, which gave room for them to be knocked around and they all shattered. The 2nd had a few broken eyeshadows, but it was packed tight full of makeup so it didn’t have much jiggle room. I wasn’t very upset about the 2nd because there was a BUTTLOAD of makeup in it, so it made up for the few shattered ones. I always use bubbled envelopes for everything. I’m sure everyone gets them in the mail, you can reuse any envelope/box you get unless its a priority flat rate envelope or box. You can even go green and use magazine pages or trashbags to ship with. Fort Worth, Tx |

I’ve also heard of people using cereal boxes by turning them inside out. As for myself, I generally try to stay away from purchasing any envelopes or boxes. I use the ones I get from previous rehashes. If I am low and have to buy, I will either go to staples and get one of those big boxes of manila envelopes…they last quite a while for me and I also staple and tape up both ends to ensure it doesn’t rip in transit. I haven’t personally had any issues with ripped packages or anything with my postal service. TURLOCK, CA |

I have a box full of them, but I always make sure to throw a bit of extra bubble wrap inside the lining just to be sure it doesn’t rip from having been reused. Fort Worth, Tx |

Yeah, I’ve done the bubble wrap thing too! Lately, I’ve just been putting clear tape over the entire front of the bag. If you notice there’s a weak area, put some tape. =) And by tape, I mean the clear strong box packing tape. The good schtuff! :P TURLOCK, CA |

Indeed. :) BUT make sure NEVER to tape over the postal stamps/label’s barcodes, because that makes the postage worth nothing. Someone did that to me and I had to pay $20 when it got delivered!!! :( Fort Worth, Tx |

To protect, you can also use paper towels – it’s not toooo tacky :) I put all my clothes in ziplock bags – then put them in a manilla envelope – then tape both ends of the envelope shut. (: When you put the clothes in the ziplock bags though you have to get all of the air out of the bag before closing!!! Palm Coast, FL |

Hey everyone! I am new to this website, and have just been going over some of the forums and stuff to try and get the gist of it. I was just wondering…Can anyone get me up to speed here? Pretty much, you trade clothes. Got it. But, how? How do I ship them, and how do i know if someone wants to trade ect… Kinda confused lol.. Sorry. But, its a great website in the essence. I like to be green and have a closet full of stuff that just sits there because I don’t have the heart to throw it out, or the time to take it to the thrift store! Wyandotte, MI |
