Collect your cans before the party – any pop or beer can will work. Grab your favorite can opener and chop off the top of the cans. You are left with “cups” that can be washed before the party and recycled afterwards as usual instead of purchasing styrofoam cups. The can opener leaves a smooth, mouth friendly edge. If you DO have little ones at a get-together, you can distinguish “grown up drinks” by using a different brand of beverage for cups or by using beer cans. Good for 4th of July cookouts! These also make good pen/scissor/change/paint/comb/zip tie/anything else you think of holders. Interlachen, Florida |

I’ve also seen this idea implemented with glass bottles. This requires some special tools and a little more labor, but gives you a permanent glass to etch. I actually have a pretty serious wine habit, and recycle A LOT of bottles. So if anyone local has an interest in collaborating with me on recycling bottles into glasses, let me know! Yeah, I’m the homeless man’s FAVORITE recycler. I am keep the labels off our wine bottles for my journaling, so when I throw bottles out there are usually several dozen. I also drink scotch and those bottles would be perfect for your Dad’s homebrew… just FYI. Lomita (near Los Angeles), CA |
