look up local places that recycle, just keep the cans, bottles, boxes ect stored somewhere until you have enough to take to the recycling place, and the plus side to doing that is that those places normally pay for at least glass and cans. pomona park, Florida |

I can’t believe that the lovely golf course gated community that I’ve just moved into doesn’t offer curbside recycling. I’m shocked! In this day and age, if the home has indoor plumbing, shouldn’t the neighborhood also offer recycling? Rumor has it that the homeowner’s association has finally recognized this issue and is working to have a solution in place sometime in 2009. But in the meantime, figuring out local solutions has taken some research—options do exist! My moving boxes were quickly snapped up by thrifty Craisglisters. I’m quickly learning where the local resources are: there’s a center-of-town dumpster drop-off for cardboard and paper; Whole Foods accepts glass, plastic and cans; and some strip malls have aluminum can-crushing machines that might even pay you back for your efforts to recycle. It just means that when you run errands, you’ve gotta do so with a trunk full of the recyclables you might otherwise leave at your curb or dump in a designated bin next to your trash. But it really isn’t that much more trouble and making the effort will allow you to sleep much more soundly at night. :) Fountain Hills, AZ |
