Mandisa Wood-Fall is Associate Core faculty at Sofia University, in the Women’s Spirituality MA Program and Adjunct faculty at Napa Valley College in the Humanities Department where she teaches Women’s Ethnic Heritage and American Mind II (a College course offered at New Technology High School). Her philosophy of teaching supports the cultivation and utilization of ethical research methods as well as the indigenous method of sharing knowledge and deconstructing learning. Mandisa is a Mother, educator, painter, and dancer with a unique teaching style that relies heavily on participation through hands on exercises and group discussions. Through her work Mandisa demonstrates how the creative arts can be incorporated with academic research and theory for a well rounded and fulfilling educational experience. Mandisa is also a Food Justice Activist and urban farmer. She manages an organic farmer’s market that has transformed the way community members eat and connect in West Oakland, CA. Her current research interests include West African matriarchal business models, sustainability education and urban agriculture, analysis of how students learn and express concepts of race, class, gender and sexuality, creative expression, and sacred dance forms of the African Diaspora.
