http://www.angelfoodministries.com/ A coworker told me about this site, you basically food shop online and pick up your order at a church. Its non-profit, non-denominational organization dedicated to providing food relief and financial support to communities throughout the United States… Brigantine, NJ |

I looked into it, and personally, the food deals they’ve got aren’t as good as what the local grocery store offers me… but then again I’m a serious deal hunter. They offer a lot of pre prepared foods, which cost less through them than what the grocery store charges, but I generally do everything from scratch so I save more that way. I wish they offered solid staples like flour, rice and eggs, instead of pre made pasta dishes and breaded chicken nuggets. Manchester, New Hampshire |

My Dad had ordered a box from them for my grandmother, it came with a couple of those boxed frozen dinners a frozen (unsweetened) tea and apple sauce, along with some other things i cant remember. My grandmother had one or two of the meals and hasnt touched any of the other since. She said it was to salty and didnt really like the flavor, which doesnt surprise me (it is a frozen meal afterall), so theres 20-something or more down the drain. If you plan on buying from there, make sure you actually buy something you like and are familiar with, or else you’re just wasting money. |

After you mentioned this I looked into it for about an hour last night. It seems that either people love it or hate it, no in between. The organization has been surrounded with controversy the last several years. (Owners spending large amounts of the companys money and receiving millions of dollars in yearly salaries, kickbacks, and they were eventually sued by fellow co workers.) Some people say the cuts of meats are mostly fat and basically left overs for the processing plants. It seems that people took it upon themselves to compare and sometimes actually spent less purchasing the same items from the grocery store. They also tend to be off brands, not that theres anything wrong with that. On the other hand, some people praised the company and said everything was delicious. They claimed for their large family it drastically cut their food bills. I guess it all depends on your situation. If you really are desperate for food, it seems like a good option but if you can afford food then its probably better to just buy exactly what you want. HAWTHORNE, CA |
