Still searching for the holy grail of bags, eh? Sucks.

I just realized I called it a “packpack.” Ashley, yeah… there’s always hoping someone magically finds one that would suit my needs. I have a regular ol’ bookbag, but I need something more rugged, that had proper support/straps, and can hold my water (or has a place for hydration pack).

I even had a guy a few days ago respond to an ad I put on Freecycle. He gave me a super old backpack (which was admittedly not bad), but didn’t really have good supports OR a place to put my water. It was also covered in a LOT of white animal hairs. Like CLUMPS of hair. I washed it, but not sure I’ll be using that. (Maybe you’ll see it here on Rehash one day).

Most likely, I’ll be going out early next week to buy one.

I recommend the Jeep brand backpacks. I have 3 or 4 of them, and they are awesome

Postmaster? Is that the guy who tells you when to post suggestions?

It looks like you will have to go out and buy one (unless you can find someone else local, at the last min., to give you one). Isn’t your trip coming up really soon? All I have are some book bags, not what you need. My mom says she still has the hiking bags I asked about, but “I don’t know where they are”, so I don’t think I’ll be able to help you out, unfortunately. Besides, they’re really old…probably at least 20 years (I’d say maybe more)! Yes, my family are packrats (even though they won’t admit it)!

Kate, if carrying water is a major concern you should consider the Camelback line of packs. This is what I think you’re looking for: http://www.rei.com/product/767539 I have had several of these bags over the years for dirt bike riding and the support system was the best… had to be when you’re going 40mph over whoops! The expense is worth it. (Sorry for posting this here, but she doesn’t have a thread on backpacks! LOL)

Before I’d opened this post, I wasn’t sure if it was refering to the person who posted the most on this board, the post master general at the p.o., or a moderator of all things forums.

How’s that for a run-on sentence. English teachers be damned.

For the record, I shall always be the postmaster. If anyone beats me, I’ll just go in the database and increase my post counter over theirs. Muahahaha.

hhhmmm…maybe she should start a thread on backpacks. :) Everyone could post their suggestions on what kind/brand to get or say “Hey, I’ve got one you can use”, etc. I guess it’s already been done here though, so…nevermind :P

Hah, ladies… thanks for your imput on backpacks.

Yes, Jenny… I was checking out the camel backs. My brother has one, and for a long time I though the darn thing was ONLY for holding water, but now I see you can stick other stuff in there as well. I also saw this one (http://www.campmor.com/outdoor/gear/Product___88053), but Peter and I are also heading to REI this evening to (as he says) “Go buy stuff we probably don’t need.” Haha, we are both big outdoors people, so REI is dangerous for us :-)

Ambyr, Jeep, eh? I didn’t even know they made backpacks! Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll see what I can find at REI or online.

Ashley, YEAH, I am cutting it really close. We leave in about a week, but cutting it close is something I am good at! At this point, anything I order online I am having sent to either my mom’s house or Peter’s mom’s house, both of which we’ll be stopping at AFTER we vacate our apartments, but BEFORE we really get into the meat of our roadtrip.

Half my heart’s in the function/features of it, and half is in how it looks! I guess that’s the artist in me. The only linked above is aesthetically pleasing to me, that’s for sure (in green or blue). And if I am paying full-price for a new one, I want one that’s perty!

I’ll let ya’ll know what I end up getting!
