Who here designs clothes or accessories? And if so, do you design/make fashionable items by using scraps from recycled clothes? Or do you know anyone that does? I’m not talking tacky patchwork stuff that looks like you’ve stepped out of a Grateful Dead tour bus back in the ‘nam days (we really need to convince people that stuff made out of recycled clothes doesn’t always look like that)... I’m talking really funky stuff that Gwen Stefani or Kate Moss would wear… Staff here is curious about the eco-creatives in our community and how we can change the way the world perceives apparel and accessories made of recycled items. If I had the money to buy a sewing machine, I’d be all over that, but I suggest the www.craftster.org forums. They have a very great section with people who make/redesign their own clothes. Meanwhile, I just crochet occasionally. I also saw a tutorial on one website for making your own hairsticks, but that’s a bit more elbow grease than I’d be willing to give. Canandaigua, New York |

Hey girl! My mother in law uses recycle fabric to elaborate things , such as bags, necklaces, and pillow cases. The problem is that she doesn’t have the creative taste to make funky accessories but, the idea is good , I think. Everyday, where I work, bags of loose fabric are tossed, maybe there is something we can do. DR, |

I make jewelry, usually beaded or wirework. Many times, I use buttons from old scrap clothes (they make GREAT fasteners for necklaces and bracelets), and I recycle old beaded or charmed jewelry. Does that count? Land O Lakes, FL |

I used to work for a company that rhymes with Latterzombie & Bitch and had to “send back” damaged items to the home office. After a year of working there, I found out “sending it back” meant they burned all of the damaged merchandise. Talk about being green, tsk tsk. Miami, Florida |

Are we allowed to say “bitch” on the forums? Isn’t it something we should know, as mods anyway? Oops? San Francisco, CA |
