Why are people posting things and saying FOR SALE ONLY?!

This is called rehash, not recash. Ungh, pleaseeee I wish I had ownership of the ban button.

this is like my 8th post today when really i should be folding the laundry, or better yet, taking a shower!

there are lots of sites for selling your items and the set-up is just as easy. don’t get me wrong…sometimes i just have to have something and would be willing to pay, but this is a swap site. swaps should take precedents over money…or take your stuff to plato’s closet or something. usually when folks are “selling” their stuff on here it is way over priced anyway. i am sorry, i know how much you paid for your forever 21 dress, and i know how much it costs to ship, like $3, no i am not going to pay $20 for it…that is close to what you paid and you already wore it!

Yeah, occasionally I purchase items too, if they don’t like my stuff, and I NEED the item direly…but I would never put “FOR SALE ONLY” on something…

I don’t mind purchasing from people on here as long as it’s reasonably priced or extremely unique. Since I live in Chicago and we have HUNDREDS of thrift stores that have designer items for under $10 (mainly because they’re mom and pop shops who don’t know what a designer label is) and in excellent condition, I keep this in mind when negotiating the price of an item here on rehash.

However (slightly off topic) I think it’s funny how on a lot of profiles it states “I will not buy your items. But you are welcomed to purchase mine.” If you’re going to sell your items you should be willing to purchase as well.

I have had more and more money issues and family issues popping up lately (not to mention my keyboard took a crap on me like two days ago)that has prevented me from shipping out trades I already made so ya I am def. guilty of posting a few things for “sale only” but it was just an attempt to make some shipping money =S… Sorry if anyone has taken offense…honestly!

Paying for shipping is totally cool. I’ve done it a few times, (paid for someone else’s, not had someone pay for my shipping). But outright paying for items is bogus if it’s just something you could just pick up at any store. I am guilty of falling for purchasing a lot of items…got really backed up for a second there, but if I pay for anything more on this site, no cash trade will exceed $10, which would only be used to cover shipping costs so no one has an excuse to wait a month to ship.

I am generally certain you are all talking about me! And I do have a few items up for sale, but I have 5x more up for trade. If you aren’t interested in purchasing I totally understand, there are ways to respectfully decline. I always offer to sell if I don’t find anything to swap for. A few of my items I am trying to sell here I can’t sell on ebay, even though I have a store there bc they aren’t authentic items. I am just trying to get rid of things I no longer use like everyone else. Hope this helps you see my perspective as well.

No hun, this wasn’t directed toward anyone specifically, and I’m sorry if I offended you :(

I’m mainly directing it to the newer rehashers on here who are being snotty…or the people who are watching my items but refuse to trade their items for them…I just don’t understand it I guess…

i’m one of those “i won’t buy your items but you can buy mine” people. i mean, i’m just being honest. i am on this site for two reasons 1) to get rid of stuff i don’t need anymore and 2) to get some “new” stuff without going to the store and paying tons of money that i don’t have. if someone wants my item but i don’t like their stuff and they’re willing to pay, why wouldn’t i let them? i get the item out of my closet and i get something i can use (money) in return. on the other hand, i currently have $85K of student loan debt and no job/income, so i simply can’t afford to buy stuff on here. if i’m gonna spend money i’m gonna get something new that i know fits me and will last for years. i don’t think i should HAVE to buy stuff just b/c i’m willing to sell mine …

more to the original topic though, i do think it’s kind of lame when people say “for sale only.” like, they’re trying to get rid of this item; they obviously don’t want it anymore. it can’t possibly be SO valuable to them that they’re unwilling to trade AT ALL for it.

It bugs me too when people say they just want to sell their items. What’s more annoying though is when I get messages from other people asking me to buy their item because I’m watching it.

Indeed. Why put it on rehash if you’re so unwilling to part with it???

The for sale only thing irks me too. So far I have yet to buy anything on here. Especially because of some of the prices. It’s like people are trying to operate their own Platos Closet on here. >:-D And just like Platos, sometimes the prices are wacky…$7 for basic tee shirt?! Thrift stores are way better places to find basic tops and tanks for way less. (btw, I’ve found cool things at platos closet at good prices…but sometimes it does seem they overprice things) lol

I’m one of the people on this site that prefers to sell, rather than trade. I’m going to be totally honest…when some people do ask for a trade (which I hate since I know they don’t read my description), they do have some cute stuff I’d really like to trade for, but have to resist. I’m just simply trying to clear out some stuff I don’t want to go waste, not trying to make a huge profit or anything. Plus, I’m going to have this huge loan debt from college once I get out. I haven’t gone shopping for clothes in months and one of the reasons is because I just don’t have room anymore..my roommate is getting mad at me for taking up most of the space! So, you see why I am so desperate to get rid of my stuff and decline trades every time.

I thought you could not sale items here? I thought it was swap only? I know on makeup alley you are not allowed to sale..I have people offered to sale me things after we could not agree on an even swap…I think if it is the rule that you cannot personally sale anything that if those people have it up there post should be removed and they should be warned.

There indeed aren’t any rules opposing posting for sale items on this site, though it is frowned upon. It’s just rude when people say FOR SALE ONLY on their items because this is clearly a trading site, not a selling site. If it was a seller’s site, it would have paypal hooked up to it as Ebay does. This is merely a trading site. I’m not bashing those who offer to pay cash for items, that is their own business. I have done that a few times for items I just couldn’t pass up, mostly makeup. I’m just saying my opinion.

I’m new here, but I don’t get why people watch your item and then refuse all trade offers and then don’t bother to write or explain why…

.. What is this about? I had a girl email me about a specific item, asked me what I wanted, I told her I was watching a few things and just let me know what she wanted to trade for it. And 2 weeks later no response, no nothing. Is it that hard to respond, a quick sorry changed my mind email? I don’t get it! Or to just explain I have nothing she wants…
