When I was making my first trade I told my fellow rehasher that if her items didn’t fit into a manila envelope I didn’t know when I’d be able to ship them, because I didn’t know what I’d be shipping them in or where I’d be getting it. Well she gave me the idea of using a cereal box to send my things out in if I needed to. So I decided to start this to see if anyone had any other ideas about how to rehash greener, different ways to recycle things when we’re shipping. West Orange , NJ |

Henley, when you continue your list will you explain to me how you’d send something out in a paper bag? Thanks :) Em West Orange , NJ |

Hi Em, I think THAT was my list. It was late when I replied. About using paper bags… If I’m packaging clothing and accessories I would cut the paper bag so it would lay flat. I would wrap the items using the paper bag as I would wrap gifts. I would use packaging tape of course to tape the package where it’s needed ( the sides and middle sections) to secure the package. I hope that helps. Bakersfield, CA |

It did thanks. I was also wondering if anyone could tell me how to cover up the old information and the stamp(s) when you’re reusing something like a manila envelope? :) Em West Orange , NJ |

You can use stickers or any type of paper and tape over the stamp and old information. Unless you want to create some artwork with markers over it that would be great too :) I usually just use a plain piece of paper to cover it and tape it. If I find huge stickers lying around, I’d use that too. Bakersfield, CA |

To cover up the old postage/addresses on a reused envelope, you could glue a sheet of paper over the whole side of the envelope. -even scratch paper with something you don’t need on one side if you really wanna be “green” lol The cereal/hot chocolate/granola bar box idea I’ve been using for a long time. Just take the seam apart and glue the box back together “inside out.” **Edit..doh nevermind, Henley already mentioned the paper..lol Virginia |

I’ve gotten stuff wrapped in a paper whole foods bag before. Just takes a bit of creativity :) Raleigh, NC |

I think it’s great idea! I never thought of that before. I have had people in the past complain about things I used to mail items in. For instance, a girl on amazon complained about me turning a used fedex bag inside out and re-using it for her shipment. I was a little bit taken back by that because I was trying to be “green”. Thank you for your tip! It’s good to see that others on here are thinking about the environment. =) When I was making my first trade I told my fellow rehasher that if her items didn’t fit into a manila envelope I didn’t know when I’d be able to ship them, because I didn’t know what I’d be shipping them in or where I’d be getting it. I like reusing past swaps’ packaging. I belong to several swap sites and several book sites, so this works out well; yes, it might look ugly, but if you can get several uses from it, it reduces the need for new packaging, unless of course, the swapped item is an odd size (don’t have old packaging that would fit), in which case, I use paper bags or kraft paper. I also save tissue paper and boxes from the holidays or from gifts, to reuse. Tissue is great for stuffing handbags (in order to keep its shape). Las Vegas, NV |

If you ever order from sephora online, the box arrives with enough tissue to last a lifetime! |

For breakable items, if you’ve run out of recycled popcorn, crinkle up newspaper pages (unless it makes the item too heavy to ship), or use shredded paper from junk mail. |

just be careful using fedex or even USPS boxes turned inside out. It actualy against the law (stupid I know! But worth knowing.) http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/16072154/detail.html Dacula, GA |

But worth knowing.) http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/16072154/detail.html My guess is that it is illegal because then people would just get new boxes for free from the post office (the ones used for priority mail) and turn them inside out, which isn’t fair to the post office. |

I definetly reuse packaging all the time. Sometimes they don’t look the prettiest becuz of, but oh well. I actaully have 2 boxes in the extra room full of small boxes and envelopes. I have also used paper bags (sandwhich and the ones from the store!) :rainbow: Manzanola, CO |

Glad to know I’m not the only one with a collection of used boxes and envelopes… I was starting to feel like a degenerate hoarder :) Manchester, New Hampshire |

When I lived with my parents I had a bunch of envelopes and boxes in my room, and my mom wanted to take me to therapy because she thought I was a hoarder. Lol. I’m not a hoarder; just stingy. |
