Let’s say member Orange posts an item. Member Red watch-lists it. Then member Yellow offers a trade. On Red’s watch list, it says that the item in question has been Traded. But in actuality, Orange hasn’t yet accepted Yellow’s offer, so truly, it’s Pending. Or Possibly Traded. Or In Limbo. Or whatever. Until an offer is actually accepted by Orange, at which time that item truly has been Traded to Yellow. Would it be possible to adjust the “Traded” notification so it more accurately reflects an item’s status? That way, those of us with active watch lists would know if we should be checking the re-listed portion of the Trading Post for these items… or if we should truly give up hope and try to move on with our lives. Thanks for reading! Fountain Hills, AZ |

There’s actually a very valid reason for why that is. It’s called “developer laziness.” It’s a lot easier/quicker to put together a system that checks two states rather than 3, so I made an executive decision. But damn it, you women are so persistent. I guess I have no choice :-( BISCAYNE PARK, FL |

hhhhmmm…don’t items go back to your watch list if the trade was rejected? I may be wrong though. You people are just too lazy to work for your trades ;) ha ha (says me, who never lists anything)! Besides, I don’t want someone knowing I wasn’t online and hadn’t gotten around to accepting a trade. That way others could swoop in and make a better offer…thus ruining my trade! :::shakes fist at Ambyr and Julie::: Darn it! |

Ooohhh, Ashley brings up an interesting point. Am I correct in understanding that the way the site is currently set up, if Yellow offers a trade to Orange, Red can’t also offer a trade for that same item at the exact same time (because that item has gone into limbo)? How interesting would it be if multiple traders could be “bidding” (offering different trades) on the same item, until one of them is accepted by Orange?! Fountain Hills, AZ |

I wish I’d think and/ or explain myself better before sending a message. I also make so many mistakes it isn’t even funny…or is it? Yes, I think that’s true. I should have worded what I said better. I meant secretly email them and say something like “hey, cancel that trade with so and so because I’ll offer this item you’ve been coveting forever for that widget instead.” How many people are going to do that to me now, I wonder. Not actually press the “make an offer” button when the item is already in limbo. Noooo…that would suck…at least for me it would (you know…because I’m a selfish insert dirty word here)! |

I am with those of you that said you should be able to receive multiple offers on an item. I would hate to think that I upload Steve Madden shoes, someone sends me a lame request (you know, like a jelly bracelet for my brand new pair of Steve Madden shoes), and then NO ONE ELSE even knows my Steve Madden shoes even exist and/or they think they are gone (like for example if I dont log in for a few… minutes). |

I’m confused: until this afternoon, when I clicked on my Watch List, there were two items (1 dress, 1 purse) in the category of “you were watching these items but they’ve been traded.” Now there’s only the dress. What happened to the purse? If a trade was offered and rejected, shouldn’t that purse pop back up on my regular Watch List section so I’d know it was available again? Or does this mean the item was deleted by the original poster? Or is this a sign that you guys are trying to implement the “In Limbo” concept and that purse is currently a limbo item? Or is this a sign of a glitch? Fountain Hills, AZ |

I do see your point Kate, and it’s a good one… |

I think it could mean either the offer was already trade OR it could have been deleted. Either way. My Brain is a glitch…must go sleep… bye |

Limbo. You should call it that. I don’t like that either – it would be nifty if more than one person can make an offer on an item at the same time. Interlachen, Florida |

The only problem with allowing people to “bid” on items that it would turn rehash into a bidding house. While I agree in concept, I think that it would put an end to quick and easy trades. If someone makes a “bid” on your item, and you hold out seeing what you can get that’s better… how long until you accept one? I can see this making the trade process quite and drawn out, like this reply Land O Lakes, FL |

Let me try to address these in order: Ashley don’t items go back to your watch list if the trade was rejected?Correct. Julie ...if Yellow offers a trade to Orange, Red can?t also offer a trade for that same item at the exact same time (because that item has gone into limbo)?Correct. In a free site with virtually unlimited free listings, the temptation to literally offer up all your stuff for everything you see is strong. We assumed that kind of mentality would annoy people fast. If someone has just 1 item and there are, say, 3,000 listings, the potential for 3,000 offers springing from a single Rehash owned by a single person opens up. Furthermore, the proclivity scammers have toward less-than-nice practices is astounding. For instance, Laura/Lee/Louise went as far as creating a different profile, a new “identity”, and even so much as securing a different shipping address just to get her hands on your stuff. That requires a whole new level of dedication. We just didn’t want to underestimate a scammer’s propensity for, well, scamming. The phrase “that’s not gonna happen” comes to mind here. Kate I am with those of you that said you should be able to receive multiple offers on an item.Receiving multiple offers is much more doable. We kept it in the same vein as creating multiple offers under the assumpting that an overload of offers could get annoying as the site grows. I remember posting a job ad on Craigslist and getting a frustrating ~2,300 reply emails. An extreme example, sure, but it’s the position we took when developing the site. Another reason is our fear of the site turning into some sort of pseudo-bidding war site. Based on your feedback though perhaps we should re-evaluate that decision. I’ll keep you posted. Julie Now there?s only the dress. What happened to the purse? The only time something disappears from your watch list is if: A) You stopped watching the item, which you didn’t do. B) The user removed the item, which is possible. C) The user’s account was deleted (by them or us), which is also possible. We checked the watch lists pretty thoroughly yesterday after patching up an error we made when adding the removal script for deleted accounts, they’re pretty airtight now. Ambyr The only problem with allowing people to ?bid? on items that it would turn rehash into a bidding house.Bingo. Miami, FL |

Was Laura/Lee/Louise from Kent and had she posted quite a few items within the last week? The purse I’d had on my watch list was posted by an individual who seems to have disappeared from the site as of yesterday… so if her account was deleted, that might explain things. Fountain Hills, AZ |

Yes, we deleted her account and checking the logs I see you were watching some of her items, so that’s surely what you’re missing from your watch list. Miami, FL |

Yeah, as soon as someone said that…about essentially bid trading on another item…you know which site I though of? Um…nevermind that. Luckily, I saw a crapload of listings from this Louise, but didn’t add them to my watch list (even though I liked some of them). Was she out of the U.S. (I don’t recall, but I don’t think so)? I have to go for now, but I might address some other things you said later. Then again…I might not…I guess we’ll see. :P ha ha! |

Yeah, I definitely get what ya’ll are saying about wanting to avoid a “bidding war.” I don’t want that either. I know from my perspective, I just wanna get rid of my stuff and get new stuff I can use. So, if I got three offers within a couple hours of posting something, I’d most likely just choose the one item I could use the most. I am definitely not the type to get bid hungry. If someone offers me something reasonable that I can use, I accept. End of story, right? Well, for me anyway.
