Hi Everyone, The hubs and I recently found out that we’re expecting a little one, to be born in October. I’ve updated the wishlist on my profile but here are some things I’ll really be needing if anyone wants to swap! I’m expecting also! You and I are actually about the same size. If this is your first, just to let you know, you probably won’t show until you are about 5 months in. I’m 6 months right now (25 weeks) and I’m actually still wearing all the same clothes – same jeans, work apparel, workout clothes, everything! I do have a pair of skinnies in a size up for the “bloat” days you will inevitably experience. The belly bands probably won’t fit you for quite a while either. Congratulations!! :) Keep us posted on how things are going – I have some amazing pregnancy books (for mom AND dad) and if you are having a girl, will probably have some clothes to swap with you also! |

Thanks everyone for the congrats, and Kitty for the advice. And congrats to you too! And yes, I’ve already experienced bloat days (gah!) especially since my doc has forbidden strenuous exercise and on nausea days I can only stand to eat carbs! I know I won’t be needing maternity stuff for awhile, but I’m trying to plan ahead as I know that I’ll be preoccupied getting everything ready come summer and won’t have as much time to be on Rehash. As a midwifery student, I have to jump in and say “Have you seen a midwife yet?” LOL, but seriously, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :birthday: JACKSONVILLE, FL |

Katie, I have an OB who works in the birthing center, but if something happens she can go with me up to the hospital floor. I figure that way it’s the best of both worlds – my friend had a midwife and when things got complicated she had to see a doctor she didn’t really know and didn’t like. (He was actually the guy from that movie Business of Being Born, she said he was cocky and impatient in real life). I’m debating getting a doula too, thoughts? New York, New York |

That sounds great :0) I’m all for any care manager to be open-minded and allow a woman to do what she can on her own before intervening. I just see SOO many unnecessary C-Sections at the hands of OB’s, so I’m a little bias. Doulas are WONDERFUL. I can’t say enough about how much of a positive impact they make on a family’s birth experience. I’ve been certified for a few years now, and it’s been one of the most enjoyable and humbling experiences I think I’ve ever taken part in. They are so great, and they only intervene as much as you want them to. They can be your voice in the medical flurry of unneeded intervention when you’re just too tired to speak. They can also magically talk you off a ledge LOL I wouldn’t ever NOT recommend having a good doula with you :-D JACKSONVILLE, FL |

I saw that movie “The Business of Being Born” I cried afterwards because I felt so bad for letting them induce my labor when it wasn’t necessary. I didn’t know it did those things to the baby. If I knew then what I know now I would have had an at home birth. That is my plan for my next child, I want the full on experience. Katie will you be my midwife in 2015 lol? |

What exactly is a doula? Jefferson, Georgia |

Kristin, a doula is a labor coach. We help the birthing mom through the highs and lows of childbirth. We also meet with the mom well before the birth to establish a relationship with the family. Doula’s undergo several different types of training. Some programs are online with apprentice-style local learning under other doulas, and some are hands-on, learning from experience only. We usually work with Midwives and their patients, but we are pretty much available to anyone who would like us there :0) Our fees are pretty reasonable, and range anywhere from $50-250 for the entire birth!! :-D JACKSONVILLE, FL |

Thanks Katie! I guess it’s obvious I haven’t had much experience with what goes into childbirth :) Jefferson, Georgia |
