Very true Kitty. Has anyone heard from Orlando or know his thoughts on this? Jefferson, Georgia |

I know Orlando has a life outside, very outside maybe, of rehash, but after all of this talk I feel safe to say that i think it is utterly lame not to have any input yet :( it is frustrating to me…as one previous rehasher said, I am worried that one day I am going to try and log on and the site will be gone! I will loose my rehash buddies, fashion inspiration and general feel of being a part of a greater group that I have. On that note…how far do we have to go when checking out ads? Most of the ones I have clicked on make me register just to look and I hate that. It’s too time consuming and I don’t even get to see anything! I’d like an optional donation link as well IDC if it goes to a fifth of vodka, if it would just make someone in charge of the site help us get going or even give us a bit of feedback :). Believe me I’m not dissing you guys! We want your love and attention :) where it is hot and cold in the same season!, |

Well let’s see here… I’m very good at getting boys’ attention – all you really need to do is put on pumps, lipstick and hold a plate of BROWNIES ;) |

Whoa, OK, hang on, let me get to everyone here. I hadn’t seen this thread until now, and I’ll touch on why that is. But first, let me ease some fears with a quick statement. Rehash will never go away out of the blue. If it does, I probably died, in which case it’ll run for a while on its own. What I’m trying to say is if Rehash goes away one day, hold a vigil for me, because I died like 40 days prior. Pour a drink out in my honor. Just make sure it’s not a light beer, or any macrobrew really, because that’s just disrespectful. Sam Adams is probably the most commercialized beer I would accept poured in my honor, though if you’re doing that you should go with a seasonal variety. Back to the point at hand. To reiterate, I would never let Rehash fade away abruptly. If it ever came down to me not wanting to maintain it anymore, I would push it onto someone else. On the highly unlikely chance that no one wanted to take it off my hands, I would make some sort of announcement that Rehash will be closing in X number of days (60? That’s plenty of notice) and talk about how awesome our competitors are. They aren’t awesome, but I would say they were. I would lie for you guys. Onto finer points. That is correct, it could be up to $1 per every click. I believe that just for having an ad on a page that is accessed he also gets paid, but thatâ??s a very small amount. Oh how I wish we were receiving $1 per click. Last month we received 874 clicks which was above average for us due to an MSN Money article featuring Rehash. We normally average around 530 per month. At $530 per month, we could pay for some solid hardware. There are no salaries to pay, all the work I put into it has been free for the past almost-4 years, and the only overhead is the monthly cost of the server. But that’s not what we get. We get $0.23 for each click. Some months are a little better, some months are a little worse. I’ve been told I should be making more based on the number of page views we get, but I’m no click marketing expert so I wouldn’t know where to begin. Partnering up with someone who does is always an idea, however they’ll expect money, and one has to wonder if they can boost revenue by 50% but they want a 50% cut what the point of that is (hint: we’d lose money. $100 + 50% = $150. $150 – 50% = $75). Besides, the point is to get someone with relevant real-world experience in that and not someone who read a few eHow articles on the topic. But, if there was a way we could donate to help the site, I think that would be awesome. Another interesting route, but then it comes down to sustainability. For example, 10 members each kindly donate $20 each. Sweet, we just got $200 and can upgrade. Next month, the total donation amount is $30. Now I’ve gotta start paying for Rehash out of pocket again – something I did for a little over a year. Donations are fine if you’re paying me for my time since I would be substituting weaker months with altruism, but not for acquiring hardware. Also, we have all talked about an apâ?¦how would something like that work? And could the ap fee help the main site? I don’t understand. You mean like a mobile app (iPhone/Android/Blackberry/etc.)? There’s a hefty development cost associated with that as far as time. I’ve thought about it before, but ultimately I would like development timed used for Rehash to be focusing on fixing existing issues. I also like the idea of optional address verification actually. How about maybe t-shirts? Verification system? I’m not following. With shirts, I haven’t looked into the financial impacts of that. The costs associated with acquiring them may not outweigh the number of units sold. But people bring this up all the time, I’d have to see whether it’s worth spending money on. What about an elite swappers group for older, trusted members? Again, a lot of factors would go into this. The cost of said program would be based on the projected amount of members joining it. If it’s only 10 people, we’re talking like $20 per month to be able to upgrade our servers. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t pay that. A minimum of 40 people paying $5 each is another story, but I would need to come up with actual incentives to something like that. Plus then I’m bound at your mercy. Hopefully that answered some questions. BISCAYNE PARK, FL |

Address verification is an idea we got from Swapstyle. That being said I don’t know how much you’ll agree with it now. But basically we pay $10 to have our address verified. The way it works is after we pay you $10 you send us a verification code via snail mail. We enter that verification code somewhere onto the site and in return we get a little badge saying we are ‘address verified’. The idea is that someone with a confirmed mailing address is more trustworthy when it comes to swapping. No P.O. Boxes of course =). I know that when it comes to donations the amount will not be the same every month but getting something is still better than nothing right? |
